Competitive Battlecards
Purpose: every rep should be able to answer "How does KeyNova compare to X?" in 60 seconds. Battlecards are the cheat sheet. They live in Salesforce on the opportunity card and are refreshed quarterly.
How to read a battlecard
Each battlecard has 6 fixed sections:
- Who they are — 30-second snapshot
- Where we usually meet them — segments + scenarios
- What they say about us (their attack)
- What we say about them (our response)
- The trap question — the question to ask them that they can't answer
- The walk-away line — what to say to close the gap
Battlecard 1 — eZee Technosys
Who they are
Owned by FCS Group (Singapore). India SMB leader. Surat HQ. Products: Absolute (PMS), Optimus (POS), Centrix (channel manager). 13,000+ properties globally; ~22,000 in India (SMB heavy).
Where we meet them
- T2 (3★ SMB hotels) — most common
- T1 (homestays, small properties) — sometimes
- T6 (small F&B chains) — occasionally
What they say about us
- "They're new, no track record."
- "They're more expensive."
- "We have more OTA integrations."
- "They don't have our reseller network."
- "You'll switch back to us in a year."
What we say about them
- "eZee was the right answer in 2015. Their UX is 2015. Try ours next to it."
- "On a like-for-like bundle, we're cheaper. They quote PMS-only. We include POS, banquet, asset, CRM."
- "OTA count matters less than connection quality. Show us your top 5 OTAs; we connect to all of them with better rate-parity monitoring."
- "Their reseller network is also slower-to-resolve when something breaks. Our support is 4-hour SLA, direct from KeyNova."
- "FCS Group acquired them in 2021. R&D pace has slowed. We've shipped 8 major features in the last 12 months — they've shipped 2."
Trap question
"When was the last major UI redesign of eZee Absolute? What's their roadmap for the next 12 months?"
(They can't answer this, or what they show is incremental.)
Walk-away line
"eZee will give you what you have. KeyNova will give you what you wanted when you bought eZee — a modern, mobile-first, India-native platform that won't feel old in 2027."
Pricing context (field-collected)
- eZee Absolute Cloud: ₹1,500-2,800/key/mo for PMS only
- eZee bundle (PMS + Optimus + Centrix): ₹3,500-5,500/key/mo
- KeyNova Pro at ₹399/key/mo includes more — emphasise the math
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≥ 55%
Battlecard 2 — IDS Next (FortuneNEXT)
Who they are
35+ year Indian enterprise PMS leader, Bengaluru. Acquired Aiosell (RM) in 2023. Customers: Lemon Tree, Sterling, Sarovar partial. ~7,000 properties.
Where we meet them
- T3 (mid-market) — common
- T4 (enterprise chain) — frequent
- T5 (resort chain) — occasional
- Generally NOT in T1/T2
What they say about us
- "They don't have our enterprise references."
- "They're not yet ISO 27001 certified."
- "Their roadmap is uncertain — startup risk."
- "We have on-premise option, they only cloud."
- "35-year track record vs new entrant."
What we say about them
- "IDS's enterprise references are 10 years old. The properties opening this year are looking at cloud-native, not 1990s software."
- "ISO 27001 in flight, certified by Q3 FY26. Our SOC 2 Type 1 is in hand. We're not behind — we're newer and faster."
- "IDS's roadmap is now driven by global FortuneNEXT priorities. Ours is driven 100% by Indian hotel customers."
- "On-prem is no longer a feature — it's a liability. CERT-In compliance, DPDPA breach reporting, all easier on cloud."
- "IBM had a 100-year track record. Salesforce won the CRM war anyway."
Trap question
"How much does the IDS implementation cost — total, with hardware, setup, customisation? And how long does it take?"
(Typical answer: ₹15-30 lakh + 8-12 weeks. Then ask: "Now compare that to KeyNova's ₹85k + 14 days for one property.")
Walk-away line
"IDS is the IBM of Indian hotel software. Reliable, expensive, slow. KeyNova is the cloud-native alternative — and the math gets better every year."
Pricing context
- IDS FortuneNEXT Cloud: ₹5,000-12,000/key/mo
- Implementation: ₹4-15 lakh one-time per property
- KeyNova Business at ₹549/key/mo, ₹85k implementation per property
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≥ 35% (uphill in T4 enterprise)
Battlecard 3 — Hotelogix
Who they are
Noida-HQ'd. Cloud PMS since 2008. ~12,000 properties claimed globally, ~14,000 India.
Where we meet them
- T2 (SMB hotels) — most common
- T3 (mid-market) — sometimes
- Often pre-installed at properties looking to upgrade
What they say about us
- "We have more global presence."
- "We're cheaper."
- "We have more integrations."
- "We've been around longer."
What we say about them
- "Global presence is irrelevant if your property is in Pune. We're India-native by default — Hindi UI, GST e-invoice, DPDPA, UPI all standard."
- "They're cheaper on PMS-only. Bundle in POS + banquet + asset + RM and the math flips."
- "Integration count is a vanity metric. Show me 5 you actually use; we connect to all of them."
- "Founded in 2008, last major UI redesign in ~2019. Try ours next to it."
Trap question
"Does Hotelogix have banquet management? Spa booking? Asset / PPM? Revenue Strategy?"
(Answer: no, or only partial — proving the bundle gap)
Walk-away line
"Hotelogix gives you PMS + channel. KeyNova gives you that plus banquet, spa, asset, RM, CRM — same price, single platform."
Pricing context
- Hotelogix: ₹2,000-3,500/key/mo
- KeyNova Pro: ₹399/key/mo, broader module set
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≥ 60%
Battlecard 4 — Djubo (now Mews India)
Who they are
Delhi NCR; founded 2014. Modern UI. Acquired by Mews 2024. ~3,500 India properties, concentrated in independent boutique + Goa.
Where we meet them
- T2 / T3 boutique hotels
- Properties valuing modern UX
What they say about us
- "We have better UI." (debatable — show your demo)
- "We're now backed by Mews — global enterprise."
- "More modern technology."
What we say about them
- "Mews is great software, but global product priorities don't ship India features. We do Indian features every sprint. India is our entire product."
- "Their team is going through acquisition uncertainty. Some attrition. Our team is India-stable."
- "Djubo had PMS. KeyNova has PMS + 5 more modules — banquet, spa, F&B, asset, RM. Same price point."
Trap question
"What's Djubo's India product roadmap for FY26?"
(Often: thin or "in alignment with Mews global". Then ask: "How does that handle the e-invoice mandate hitting ₹20Cr in April 2026?")
Walk-away line
"Djubo is now Mews India. Mews is a Czech company. KeyNova is the alternative built and shipped from India."
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≥ 50%
Battlecard 5 — Cloudbeds
Who they are
US-based (San Diego), founded 2012. Global SMB cloud PMS. ~1,800 India properties.
Where we meet them
- Resorts in Goa / hill stations
- Properties with high foreign-traveller mix
- Boutique hotels run by foreign-trained operators
What they say about us
- "We're global; they're India-only."
- "Better PCI DSS posture."
- "Cleaner UI."
What we say about them
- "They're global, but no e-invoice for India, no Hindi UI, no UPI-first. India tax compliance is a manual workaround on Cloudbeds."
- "PCI DSS — same. Razorpay processes our payments; we're network-isolated at the payment-service layer."
- "UI is a matter of taste. Show side-by-side; let the customer decide."
Trap question
"How does Cloudbeds handle GST e-invoice via IRN? How does it generate Hindi receipts for hotel staff?"
(Often: workaround or "not yet" — proving the gap)
Walk-away line
"Cloudbeds is great if you're in San Diego. If you're in Saligao, KeyNova is what you want."
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≥ 70% (huge advantage on India-fit)
Battlecard 6 — Oracle Opera
Who they are
The default 5★ PMS globally. Owned by Oracle since 2014. India: ~290 properties (most 5★ chains).
Where we meet them
- T4 / T5 enterprise — rarely head-to-head; we mostly land in adjacent properties of Opera customers
- Greenfield 5★ openings — occasionally
What they say about us
- "You can't run a 5★ on KeyNova."
- "We're the industry standard."
- "Your brand partner (Taj/Marriott/etc.) requires us."
What we say about them
- "For Taj/Marriott/Hyatt flagships, you can't. For your independent properties, your acquired brands, your new openings — you can. And the TCO gap is 60-70%."
- "Industry standard is a function of when you were buying. Today's greenfield 4★ chains are increasingly choosing cloud-native."
- "Brand standard contractually requires? Show me the clause. Usually says 'PMS that meets standards X, Y, Z'. We meet X, Y, Z."
Trap question
"What's the full Opera TCO across all your properties — software, integration, hardware, IT staff, year-on-year? And what does that come out to per occupied room-night?"
(Most customers can't calculate this. When they do, the number is jaw-dropping.)
Walk-away line
"We're not asking you to replace Opera at the Taj this year. We're asking you to put KeyNova in your next 5 properties — and see the operating cost gap in your P&L."
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≤ 15% (we don't expect to win head-to-head; we win adjacent)
Battlecard 7 — Stayflexi
Who they are
Founded 2018 (Bengaluru). Cloud PMS + distribution. ~1,200 India properties.
Where we meet them
- T2 boutique hotels — sometimes
- Properties valuing low price
What they say about us
- "We're cheaper."
- "We have distribution arm built-in (Stayflexi Direct)."
What we say about them
- "Cheaper, narrower. They don't have banquet, spa, asset, RM. If you only need PMS + booking engine, fine. Most properties need more."
- "Stayflexi Direct is interesting but you're tying yourself to their distribution. Our model — bring your own demand."
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≥ 60%
Battlecard 8 — RMS Cloud (Australian)
Who they are
Australia-based. Strong in serviced apartments / extended stay. ~200 India.
Where we meet them
- Serviced apartments
- Long-stay corporate hospitality
What we say about them
- "Strong in long-stay, weaker on transient. KeyNova handles both."
- "Australia-based — same time-zone issues as Cloudbeds, plus no India-specific compliance."
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≥ 70%
Battlecard 9 — Innkey / Shawman / Protel / Older players
Who they are
- Innkey — ~400 India, Gujarat strong
- Shawman (Tata) — ~800 India, modular enterprise-ware
- Protel (Planet-owned, German) — ~150 India, 4-5★
What we say about them
- "All on-prem or hybrid heritage. Cloud version is a re-platform."
- "India compliance is sluggish — they're catching up to e-invoice, DPDPA."
- "UI feels enterprise-ware. Hard to train new staff."
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≥ 60% (less common to see them; when we do, easy win)
Battlecard 10 — Petpooja (T6 — restaurant POS)
Who they are
Pune-HQ'd. Most installed POS in Indian restaurants. ~80,000 outlets.
Where we meet them
- T6 restaurant chains — almost every deal
- Single-outlet to 10-outlet chains
What they say about us
- "We have more restaurants on our platform."
- "Cheaper."
- "More restaurant-specific features."
What we say about them
- "Petpooja is POS only. KeyNova is POS + KDS + inventory + GST e-invoice + CRM + analytics. If you're a chain you need the broader platform."
- "Cheaper if you only buy POS. Add the other modules and KeyNova is comparable."
- "Their restaurant focus is real — but they don't integrate with hotel PMS. If you're running F&B inside a hotel, that integration matters."
Trap question
"How does Petpooja handle multi-outlet inventory consolidation? How does it generate GST e-invoice via IRN?"
Walk-away line
"For a single-outlet street-side cafe, Petpooja is the right answer. For a 5-outlet chain that also wants central inventory, recipe-costing, loyalty, and e-invoice — KeyNova is."
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≥ 50%
Battlecard 11 — POSist / UrbanPiper (T6)
Who they are
- POSist: restaurant POS focused on multi-outlet chains
- UrbanPiper: aggregator + delivery management
Where we meet them
- T6 restaurant chains with aggregator-heavy revenue
What we say about them
- "POSist + UrbanPiper is 2 vendors. KeyNova is 1."
- "Their aggregator integration is strong; ours matches. Our hotel-side integration (if F&B is in a hotel) is unique."
Win rate target
- Head-to-head: ≥ 45%
Battlecard 12 — STAAH / SiteMinder (channel-manager only)
Who they are
Channel managers. STAAH = Indian; SiteMinder = Australian. Common adjuncts.
What we say about them
- "Channel manager is one of our 10 modules. If you only need that, fine. If you also need PMS / booking engine / payments — KeyNova replaces all of them."
Strategy
Not competitive — often coexist. Win by replacing them when customer wants consolidation.
